SOUTHERN CROSS CATHOLIC COLLEGE – PERFORMING ARTS SPECIALIST STREAM

Southern Cross Catholic College Burwood is Sydney Catholic Schools’ specialist performing arts college. It is a co-educational secondary school for students in Years 9 to 12 with a focus on personalised learning.

Through Southern Cross Catholic College, we ignite the passion in our students for the Performing Arts, and work with each student to strive for excellence in their chosen stream. Our experienced teachers, in collaboration with industry experts, support each and every student in providing the foundation for a career in the performing arts into the future. Students apply for entry into their chosen discipline (major study), and may choose a second discipline as their minor study area.

  • Dance (Classical or Contemporary)
  • Drama
  • Music – Instrumental (Classical or Contemporary)
  • Music – Voice (Classical or Contemporary)
  • Music Theatre – Singing, Dancing and Acting

The ‘Southern Cross Advantage’ is the ability to provide personalised learning, and micro-credentialing for students, alongside a full Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) pathway studying NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Board developed courses. In addition to Stage 5 and 6 Dance, Drama and Music courses, students have the opportunity to develop skills as a triple threat in the study of Music Theatre, while earning a Certificate III in Community Dance Theatre and Events.

Entry to the school is by audition and interview. Once enrolled, students study NESA Board developed curriculum, along with specialised, rigorous performing arts masterclasses to hone their craft in their chosen discipline of Singing, Instrumental Music, Dancing, or Acting. Students are also strongly encouraged to choose a second performing arts subject to complement their major study.
