Sydney Catholic Schools has featured in the high-achieving schools list for outstanding NAPLAN 2022 results with four schools placing in the state’s top 20.
Among the Sydney Catholic Schools to take out top honours in Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) state NAPLAN results, are:
- Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Primary School Mt Pritchard (7th place)
- St Felix Catholic Primary School Bankstown (14th place)
- John the Baptist Catholic Primary School Bonnyrigg (15th place)
- Mary Immaculate Catholic Primary School Bossley Park (16th place)
For Our Lady of Mt Carmel principal, Michelle McKinnon, the school’s results have been attained by good teaching practices and hard work by the students.
“The success of our students can be attributed to a culture that upholds high standards for everyone, where competent leadership coaches collaborate with exceptional teachers to inspire students to consistently improve themselves,” she said.
YEAR ROUND PARENT SUPPORT REAPS RESULTS
Principal Fran Bananno from St Felix’ credits strong, all year round parent support as well as assisting students based on identified needs.
“We have excellent mentors working with teachers to build capacity and to support our students in small groups,” said Mrs Bananno.
For John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, the school’s continued success in NAPLAN is a reflection of the clear vision and focus on core English and Mathematics instruction.
“Targeted teaching, which aims to identify the specific needs of each learner, is the cornerstone of our approach. Literacy and Numeracy concepts are also taught across all key learning areas,” said principal, Brendan O’Connor.
“We have a very responsive parent community who supports the school’s initiatives, and who, in turn, encourages each of us to maintain high expectations. It is a wonderful achievement for the staff and students of our school,” he said.
For Mary Immaculate principal, Beverly Coffee, literacy and numeracy skills are essential for developing critical thinking, deep learning and higher order conceptual understandings.
“The delivery of activities that support highly proficient literacy and numeracy skills is the core focus of class teachers along with the support from specialist literacy and numeracy teachers and learning support officers,” said Mrs Coffee.
“We develop a strong understanding of each child’s strengths and those needing support and differentiate our teaching to allow each student to be challenged and stimulated,” she said.
