PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

Sydney Catholic Schools actively supports teachers and staff to lead responsibly and compassionately while upholding their Catholic beliefs through professional learning and mentoring.

We offer a variety of programs to give staff and emerging school leaders the tools they need to feel and be empowered.

All Religious Education teachers are required to be qualified teachers with a background, knowledge, and professional commitment that supports the curriculum and ethos of the Catholic school.

It is expected that teachers of Religious Education are Catholic and are committed to their faith.

Those seeking accreditation to teach Religious Education can apply through the classification process or complete the Application for Accreditation.

If you have questions about the ‘Work, Teach and Lead in a Catholic School’ policy, please see our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Sydney Catholic Schools uses the ‘Head, Heart, Hands’ approach to the faith formation of our staff. We encourage teachers to support local parish outreach initiatives.

Initiatives that target the head are thought-provoking, intellectual in nature, and often involve dialogue and reflection.

Events that target the heart encourage participants to empathise, reflect, pray, and seek to connect and understand. They often include segments of prayer and worship.

Activities that target the hands offer participants a way to be actively involved through service, and to give freely of their time and resources to assist those in need.

Formation experiences include:

  • professional development courses.
  • system and school retreats for staff.
  • assisting to plan and run school retreats.
  • staff pilgrimages and immersions.
