Coen’s star on the rise

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School Miranda student Coen Hardy has been awarded a sports medallion at the 2021 Primary Sports Awards.

Coen received the medallion for his selection into the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) State Merit Team for Australian Football.

The sport medallion is awarded to Sydney Catholic School students who have represented MacKillop on three or more occasions and/or were selected into a NSWPSSA State Merit Team during the school year.

Coen was one of seven students to receive a medallion during a virtual ceremony, held in December 2021.

Coen, who is described as humble and hard-working by his teachers and peers, said he was delighted after finding out he would be recognised during the awards.

“When I heard I was receiving a sports medallion I felt proud, excited and happy,” Coen said.

Noted for his humility and strong mindset, Coen said he dreams of one day lacing up his boots on the big stage – just like AFL legend Adam Goodes.

“My goal for the future is to become a professional athlete in sport,” Coen said.

Sky’s the limit for Willow

St Therese Catholic Primary School Mascot student Willow Skene has been awarded a sports medallion at the 2021 Primary Sports Awards.

Willow received the medallion for her selection into the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) State Merit Team for Australian Football.

The sport medallion is awarded to Sydney Catholic School students who have represented MacKillop on three or more occasions and/or were selected into a NSWPSSA State Merit Team during the school year.

A humble student who excels both in the classroom and on the field, Willow said the medallion came as a surprise.

“When I heard I was receiving a sports medallion It was kind of weird because I wasn’t expecting one!” Willow said.

“Making the state team is probably my greatest accomplishment because that’s the first state team I ever made.”

Known as someone who is extremely self-motivated, Willow comes to school every morning having already done some form of training.

It’s the kind of dedication that has the youngster eyeing off a place on the big stage.

Gray’s future shines bright

St Margaret Mary’s Catholic Primary School Randwick North student Jackson Gray has been awarded a sports medallion at the 2021 Primary Sports Awards.

Jackson received a medallion after being named in the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) State Merit Team for rugby league.

The sport medallion is awarded to Sydney Catholic School students who have represented MacKillop on three or more occasions and/or were selected into an NSWPSSA State Merit Team during the school year.

A Colour House Sports Captain at St Margaret Mary’s, Jackson is a wonderful role model for the younger students.

“My goals in the future are probably to reach a high level in rugby league and one day hopefully make (it to the) NRL,” he said.

Jacskon hopes to one day pull on a Sydney Roosters jumper.

The Sydney Roosters fan looks up to the team’s captain James Tedesco.

“He’s a good leader and he also has made it in a high level of rugby league,” Jackson said.

With those lofty ambitions, Jackson has already received national attention when the Today Show visited St Margaret Mary’s in 2021.

For now, though, Jackson’s motivation for picking up a football is simple.

Isabella making waves

Isabella received the medallion for her selection into the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) Sate Merit Team for swimming.

The sport medallion is awarded to Sydney Catholic School students who have represented MacKillop on three or more occasions and/or were selected into a NSWPSSA State Merit Team during the school year.

A natural leader whose sporting prowess is admired by her peers, Isabella said swimming gives her self-confidence and helps her realise her potential.

“One of the best things about swimming for me is the opportunity to push yourself and be proud of what you can accomplish,” Isabella said.

Isabella has had a very successful year in the pool.

Having picked up a slew of medals in the past 12 months and representing her school at the state championships, Isabella said she’s hoping to one day emulate her idol Bronte Campbell.

“One of my sporting idols is Bronte Campbell ‘cause I’ve been looking up to her and watching her at the Olympics since I was little,” she said.

Dann makes his mark

St Francis de Sales Catholic Primary Woolooware student Joshua Dann has been awarded a sports medallion at the 2021 Primary Sports Awards.

Joshua received a medallion after being named in the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) State Merit Team for Australian Football.

The sport medallion is awarded to Sydney Catholic School students who have represented MacKillop on three or more occasions and/or were selected into an NSWPSSA State Merit Team during the school year.

Joshua says making the team after the NSWPSSA Boys Australian Football Championship in Byron Bay is his greatest sporting achievement. He was also pleased to receive a sports medallion.

“I felt immensely proud but also happy that I got the recognition for what I did in Byron and all the other sports through my school,” Joshua said.

He was one of seven students to receive a medallion during a virtual ceremony, held in December 2021.

“People should get involved in sport because it’s fun, it’s healthy for you and you can make friends for a long time,” Joshua said.

“I would like to make the AFL and possibly do well in (the) AFL in the future,” Joshua said.

St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School Maroubra Junction Captain, Sydney Israel, has been awarded a sports medallion at the 2021 Primary Sports Awards.

Sydney received a medallion after being named in the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) State Merit Team for rugby league.

The sport medallion is awarded to Sydney Catholic School students who have represented MacKillop on three or more occasions and/or were selected into an NSWPSSA State Merit team during the school year.

“It was a really good surprise,” Sydney said.

Sydney has been involved in all aspects of school life and is willing to take on all responsibilities asked of him.

He is very kind, particularly with younger children, and is very well-mannered and respectful.
