Some of the best chess players from across the Archdiocese of Sydney came together to battle it out for supremacy at the 2024 Sydney Chess Championships at Rosebank College Five Dock on 2 July.

Following the success of the inaugural competition in 2023, this year’s championships included students from 17 different secondary schools.

Marist College Eastwood were the big victors on the day, taking out both the Intermediate and Senior age groups, while Marist Catholic College North Shore came out on top in the Junior category.

Chess was introduced as one of the newest sport offerings at Sydney Catholic Schools, joining surfing, golf, mountain biking and water polo as some of the 30-plus sports that are now available to our students.
