Studying at Southern Cross Catholic College Burwood has allowed Macey Danger to pursue a career that involves caring for others while still at school.

Macey is completing a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in nursing work in acute care), and dreams of completing a Diploma of Health at TAFE post school.

Although she is in the final leg of her Year 12 journey, Macey has already been given the chance to show her capabilities as a nurse both at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and at an Estia Health aged care home.

“In addition to our coursework, for our practical component we do placements in a hospital and a community placement,” Macey said.

She felt nursing was, undoubtedly, her calling in life. She sees patients at their absolute lowest and has the privilege of caring for them. “I love it,” she said.

“I help the patient with hygiene, feeding, dressing,” Macey added.

She said that her desire to become a nurse began during visits to her grandparents in hospital.

“I saw that and it encouraged me to want to help,” she said.

“I didn’t realise till then that I was so empathetic. I recommend the course, 100 percent!”
