On Thursday, 13 March, Sydney Catholic Schools gathered at St Mary’s Cathedral for the 2025 Commissioning Mass.
This significant event celebrated the commissioning of beginning teachers, school leaders, and our new Executive Director, Danielle Cronin. The annual Mass is a time of reflection, renewal, and unity, reaffirming our shared commitment to Catholic education.
Presiding over the Mass, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP spoke about the significance of the occasion in shaping the hearts and minds of young people:
“In celebrating the Eucharist to mark these new beginnings, we are reminded of the invaluable role Catholic educators play in forming the character, and spirit of our young people, leading them to God along the path of discipleship,” Archbishop Fisher said.
“Life and faith are fully experienced in community – whether in family, friendship, or the classroom.”
The Mass welcomed Danielle Cronin as the new Executive Director of Sydney Catholic Schools, acknowledging her deep commitment to faith, learning, and service.
Mrs Cronin addressed attendees, saying, “As Catholic educators, we are entrusted with the sacred task of forming students.
“More than teaching subjects, we are called to witness a life rooted in faith, compassion, and human excellence. Our schools are places where the Gospel is lived, guiding students to grow spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and socially.”
“By drawing on the richness of our Catholic Intellectual Tradition, we inspire students not just to be learners, but to become compassionate and responsible global citizens.”
To the new teachers and leaders commencing in 2025, Mrs Cronin said, “You are entering a vocation that is both challenging and rewarding. More than educators, you are mentors and role models who will shape the lives of your students.”
The Commissioning Mass served as a powerful reminder that Catholic education is a collective mission, uniting educators, leaders, families, and the wider Sydney Archdiocese in service of students.
“In helping the young explore the wonders of God, creation, and themselves, we contribute to building up God’s kingdom and a better world,” said Archbishop Fisher.
