Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) is proud to announce that applications for its 2025 Future Teacher Scholarship are now open.

These scholarships offer aspiring teachers a life-changing opportunity with up to $22,000 in financial support throughout their degree, exclusive professional development and mentoring, and guaranteed employment within the SCS network of 147 schools upon graduation.

Supporting the next generation of educators

Jo Thompson, Network Hub Lead at SCS, says the scholarship isn’t just about attracting future teachers, it’s about setting them up to thrive long-term.

“The financial support alleviates pressures for our candidates, so they can focus on learning during this critical period,” Jo said.

“However it’s the mentoring and structured guidance that truly make the difference. We’re not just offering a scholarship – we’re offering a community.”

This community is built through the Future Teacher Community of Practice, which pairs students with experienced mentors and facilitates regular sessions for reflection, peer support, and professional growth.

“We walk with our scholars throughout their journey,” Jo said. “From the day they receive their scholarship to the day they step into their first classroom, we are there to guide, support and celebrate with them.”

Giorgia’s journey: “It gave me a real head start”

One recipient who’s already seeing the impact of the program is Giorgia Marando, who was awarded a scholarship while still in high school.

“I’ve always wanted to become a teacher and help children, particularly those with learning difficulties,” Giorgia said.

“The scholarship gave me a real head start in my teaching career from financial support to early access to mentorship and learning opportunities.”
