Turn your vocation into a rewarding career in Catholic education. Apply for a tertiary teacher scholarship today!

Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) is proud to announce that applications are now open for the Excellence in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Scholarship.

The scholarship is designed to support passionate students currently pursuing their teaching degrees, helping them turn their vocation into a rewarding career in Catholic education.

Open to high-achieving students currently enrolled in a Master of Teaching program or the second year of an undergraduate teaching degree, the ITE Scholarship offers substantial financial support, reimbursing75% of remaining university course costs during the scholarship period.

In addition, students receive expert mentoring, part-time and casual employment opportunities with SCS, and are guaranteed a position at one of 147 SCS schools upon completing their studies.

Christine Mamo, a former speech pathologist is among the current cohort of scholarship recipients set to bring valuable life experience to the classroom.

After a move to Poland prompted a career pivot into teaching primary school students, Christine decided to pursue further education studies on her return to Australia.

“Even though I had been working in an elementary school, I decided I wanted to teach in high schools and focus on subjects I’m deeply passionate about including Ancient History and English.”

Christine is now studying a Master of Teaching (Secondary) online through the University of New England while working part-time at Marist Catholic College Penshurst in a school support role.

“I had looked at other scholarships but I never quite fit the criteria. This one was a perfect match, and the application process was simple and supportive,” she said.

“The guaranteed employment was a major drawcard. Starting a new career at my age, with a young family to support, I didn’t want to face the stress of searching for work once I finish my degree.”
