Every day counts
When a child misses school, they miss opportunities to learn, build friendships and develop confidence. Regular attendance strengthens academic progress and expands future career and life options.
Your Responsibilities as a Parent/Carer
In New South Wales, education is compulsory for children aged 6 to 17 under the Education Act 1990 (NSW).
Parents must:
- Enrol their child in a registered school or be registered for home schooling.
- Ensure their child attends school every day it is open for student lessons.
- Ensure their child has completed Year 10, and if they are under 17 remain in full-time education, training (e.g. TAFE, apprenticeship, traineeship), full-time paid employment (minimum 25 hours per week) or in a combination of work, education and/or training.
