The Second Vatican Council was announced by Pope John XXIII on 25 January 1959. It was to provide a spiritual renewal to the Church for the Christians separated from Rome, to join in a search for Christian unity. The Council was completed on 8 December 1965 with 16 documents enacted by the council fathers.
