Michael Kelly was born at Waterford, Ireland on 13 February 1850. He was ordained on 1 November 1872. He became Archbishop on 16 August 1911 on the death of Cardinal Moran. He was named Bishop Assistant at the Papal Throne and Count of the Holy Roman Empire on 25 June 1926. Archbishop Kelly died on 8 March 1940.
