Some of the best chess players from across the Archdiocese of Sydney battled it out this week at the inaugural Sydney Chess Championships.

After battling it out across four conference days, 110 of the top ranked secondary school students descended upon Rosebank College Five Dock to determine who would be crowned champion.

Marist College Eastwood were the big victors on the day, taking out both the Junior and Intermediate age groups, while St Mary’s Cathedral College came out on top in the Senior categories.

Chess is one the newest sport offerings at Sydney Catholic Schools, joining surfing, mountain biking and water polo as some of the 30 sports that are now available to our students.
