Nearly 200 high-achieving students from the Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) Class of 2024 have been honoured at the annual Executive Director’s Awards for Excellence in HSC and VET.

Held at Sydney Town Hall on Thursday 10 April, the awards were an opportunity to celebrate students’ hard work and success in both the 2024 Higher School Certificate and Vocational Education and Training.

Among those to receive awards were students who placed first in their course in the Archdiocese, students who demonstrated exceptional diligence in VET courses, as well as those who displayed outstanding aptitude in school based traineeships and apprenticeships.

Special acclaim was given to the eight SCS students who received First in Course honours for topping the state, and Southern Cross Catholic College Burwood graduate Oisin Ryan who scooped the coveted prize of VET Student of the Year.

he night also saw awards given to SCS’ top performing schools. In the 2024 HSC, six schools placed in the top 100 high schools in NSW, with 13 schools ranking in the top 150.

St Clare’s College Waverley was noted for achieving a state ranking of 48th, the highest of all SCS schools, while Marist Catholic College Kogarah was commended for the most significant comparative learning gain of the year.

Collectively, the Class of 2024 produced unprecedented results. More than 29% of students achieved an ATAR of more than 85, while students who pursued VET pathways successfully completed a total of 1,921 nationally recognised Certificate II and III qualifications.

Danielle Cronin, Executive Director of SCS, congratulated the students on their incredible success.

“You have worked hard, stretched your abilities, and persevered through challenges, both expected and unexpected. You should be immensely proud. We are certainly very proud of you,” she said.

“As you’ve now stepped out from the well-marked paths of school life into the wider world, I hope you are enjoying this next phase. I encourage you to use your hands, your hearts, and your minds to change the world in small and big ways.

“Congratulations for all you have achieved thus far and in anticipation for all that you will achieve. We are cheering you on, today and always.”
