The Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) End of Era Functions Policy embraces the celebratory nature of significant milestones in a student’s educational journey. The aim of this policy is to ensure that all End of Era functions are conducted in a safe, enjoyable, and memorable manner, befitting the rite of passage.

Aligned with the SCS Magis Strategy, these events reflect our commitment to service, participation and belonging within the school community. Students, staff and families share responsibility for ensuring celebrations are conducted with integrity, respect and accountability.

For the purposes of this policy, an End of Era Function incorporates Graduations, Formals, Dances, Debuts, Dinners or other events occurring outside of typical school hours to celebrate the end of an era. This policy applies to all End of Era functions within Sydney Catholic Schools.

The policy distinguishes between two types of End of Era Functions:

  • Sanctioned, and
  • Unsanctioned.

3.1 Sanctioned End of Era Functions
These events may be wholly conducted by the school staff, or conducted by the school but with the support of parents/caregivers in their preparation.

  • Schools take responsibility for all aspects of the event.
  • The focus of these events is to celebrate the achievements of current students.
  • Adequate staff supervision is required based on the event risk assessment/s.
  • The consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited for all attendees.
  • Supervising school staff cannot be charged to attend.

3.2 Unsanctioned End of Era Functions

  • The event will not be endorsed by the school in word or deed.
  • The event cannot be conducted on the school or parish site.
  • Attendance of school staff is prohibited.
  • Fundraising activities in the school’s name for the event is not permitted.
  • The name of the school must not be used in any aspect of the event.
