Pathway to the Lord

My expressive drawing titled ‘Pathway to the Lord’ is my interpretation of the passage from the Gospel of Matthew – Escape to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-15). This is the story of a journey. A journey that lasted many days and nights, hence that background representing the day and night. Mary would have experienced much pain and sorrow, as well as fear knowing that her and Joseph had to escape to protect Jesus. The tears flowing from the eyes of Mary embody the emotion she was feeling at the time. I used a range of tonal colour and different shades to create visual texture. The amazing thing about tears is that they also come from joy and happiness. Jesus was the ‘Joy’ of the world. The three paths are symbolism of my three siblings. They, like Mary to Jesus, would do anything for me. They protect and love me. They laugh and cry with me. They also bring comfort to me in difficult times. My faith is a journey. It may lead me in many directions throughout my life but ultimately my faith is my pathway to the Lord.
