Spirit of Love
I based my artwork on Matthew 1:18-25 when the Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. The angel said, “Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” My artwork represents how I think Joseph would have felt after the Holy Spirit visited him. Joseph was planning to quietly divorce Mary because he was a good and kind man. I imagine he would have felt upset about the prospect of doing this. Then, when Joseph was told in a dream that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit he would have felt a great sense of relief and joy. He could continue to live his life with Mary and raise Jesus as his son.
The dove as the symbol of the Holy Spirit and the bright colours I used in my artwork represent the great happiness of this moment and the new beginning that came about as a result of this moment. More importantly, it represents the fulfilment of the Scriptures.
To create my artwork I have embossed the image of the Holy Spirit on foil and painted it with metallic paint markers. The foil and metallic ink make my artwork shine like the many stained glass windows I took my inspiration from.
