Executive Director – Dr Dan White

Dr Dan White is currently the Executive Director of Sydney Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Sydney.  Prior to his appointment Dr White was the Director of Catholic Education for the Archdiocese of Hobart for six years. He previously served in senior leadership roles as an Area Administrator in the Diocese of Parramatta and as a School Consultant in the Diocese of Bathurst. His teaching experience embraced a number of Catholic primary schools in Western Sydney where he was a primary principal for nine years.

Academically he completed his Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education at Macquarie University, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma of Religious Studies from the Catholic College of Education.  Subsequently he completed two Masters degrees in Leadership and Religious Education and concluded a Doctoral program with the Australian Catholic University in 2005.  In 2014, Dr White successfully completed the Oxford Advanced Management and Leadership Programme (OAMLP) at the Säid Business School in the University of Oxford.

Dr White’s research interests have included investigations into brain-based learning theory and its practical implications for classroom pedagogy, especially in the field of religious education.  He has also written extensively in the areas of religious identity, collaborative leadership and reflective practice. Dr White is the co-author of seven educational resource books focusing particularly on higher order learning and thinking strategies. His most recent publications include Into the Desert and Desert Wisdom. His current research project involves an exploration of the cultural context of 1st Century Palestine and its implications for understanding the Scriptures.

Dr White is a Fellow of both the Australian College of Educators and the Australian Council of Educational Leaders.  Amongst his other responsibilities Dr White has served on the National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) for six years and was also a member of the NCEC’s Religious Education Committee.

Following a four year term as a member of the Tasmanian Qualification Authority, Dr White was a ministerially appointed member of the NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) from 2010-2014.  Dr White was formerly a board member of Catholic Network Australia (CNA) (2013-2014), a member of the Senate of the Australian Catholic University (2011-2014), and a member of the Board of Governors for the University of Notre Dame Australia (2009-2015).

Dr White is currently a member of the NSW Catholic Education Commission and the Catholic Education Network (CEnet).
