PAYROLL OFFICER

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Officer looking to take on a new challenge and join our large, supportive Employment Services Team. Reporting to the HR Team Leader for the Eastern Region, you will be responsible for providing support on a wide range of payroll functions using our payroll system (PeopleSoft).

Some of the key duties will include:

  • Assisting with the end to end processing of fortnightly payroll for 9,000 multi-site employees using PeopleSoft;
  • Processing new starters, resignations, back payments, terminations and redundancy calculation and payments;
  • Responding to and processing requests for statements of service, employment history records, leave, accruals, balances and other reports
  • Payroll reconciliation and reporting;
  • Interpreting and providing advice on relevant Enterprise Agreements, Awards, relevant Acts (LSL Act) and payroll tax legislation
  • Managing and responding to all employee payroll related queries primarily via phone or email;
  • Ensure all payroll audit and compliance is adhered to;
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements;
  • Ensuring timely and accurate payroll data entry and record keeping into the PeopleSoft payroll system; and
  • Building and maintaining internal and external relationships.

 Essential Criteria: 

  • 2+ years’ experience in a high volume (1,500+ employees) payroll environment with the ability to accurately process large volumes of work whilst meeting strict deadlines, taking a proactive, organised and effective approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll processing using a human resources information (HRIS) or payroll system and functions
  • Ability to interpret, provide advice and support on relevant Enterprise Agreements, policies and employment related legislation
  • Well-developed knowledge of, and ability to use computer applications including Microsoft and Google packages
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees both in verbal and written form coupled with a service mindset
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with empathy and discretion
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a willingness to work in a team environment.

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Previous experience using Peoplesoft HRIS payroll system
  • Previous experience working in an Education environment
  • Knowledge of the Catholic School system and faith
