Sydney Catholic Schools (SCS) is responsible for the leadership of 152 Catholic Primary and Secondary schools across the Archdiocese of Sydney.

We have a unique opportunity for an Education Officer: Diverse Learning – Special Education, to join our Central Diverse Learning Team. Reporting to the Head of Diverse Learning, this role is designed to work in close partnership with Central and Regional Diverse Learning Teams, to develop learning centred Special Education initiatives and deliver a range of services to Regional Offices and schools. The successful applicant will also contribute to shaping and implementing strategic responses to recommendations from reviews of service within Diverse Learning.

Some of the role responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the Education Officer: Strategic Initiatives (Special Education), to facilitate responses to recommendations from recent reviews of service in Special Education, Sensory Impairment and provision for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Offering shared leadership of the system wide implementation and moderation of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data for SWD (NCCD for SWD). This will occur in close collaboration with Regional Diverse Learning Teams and schools
  • Assisting and supporting resource deployment processes such as, Additional Learning and Support Grants and Complex Needs Funding
  • Assisting and supporting Archdiocesan planning and delivery of new and existing Online Training courses (OLT UK)
  • Implementing processes for SCS leaders and teachers to access opportunities for supported study in the areas of Special/Inclusive Education, and Autism studies
  • Implementing processes for SCS Learning Support Officers to engage in supported study in Certificate IV: Inclusive Education through TAFE institutions
  • Additional responsibilities in response to emerging needs, as negotiated with the Head of Diverse Learning

Essential Criteria

  • Professional qualifications as a teacher accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Special/Inclusive Education at Masters or Graduate Diploma level
  • At least 5 years experience as a highly effective school practitioner
  • Experience as a Special Education teacher/Leader of Learning, with a strong background in leading professional learning for staff in Primary/Secondary schools
  • Current or past experience as an effective member of a school executive/leadership team
  • Thorough knowledge of, and experience in, facilitating the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data for Students with Disability at a school or Regional level
  • Successful leadership in designing and implementing change processes in schools
  • Capacity to utilise qualitative and quantitative data to inform improvement initiatives in schools

 Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in facilitating Online Training courses (OLT UK) at a school or Regional level
